So, I'm an expat from abroad and have been living in the Russian Federation coming up on about four years now. There is just one thing that I can't quite grasp;
What is everyone constantly drilling in their flats here?
I have lived in three different flats since arriving, and have been to friends homes, visited other cities, towns within the country - and its simply bewildering to me that no matter where or when, someone is always drilling some shit into their walls next door or in the floor above. WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU PEOPLE DRILLING FOR YEARS ON END? WHAT DO YOU HAVE AGAINST PEACE & QUIET???????

I generally don't mind the automobile related noise from outside, but what I seriously hate is how seemingly everyone in Russia who lives in an apartment building owns a subwoofer speaker and blasts their EDM literally whenever they want.

Here in the UK it is 290ng/dl, if you are below that the NHS will allow you to take testosterone therapy. If you are not at that level or below, you won't be able to get a prescription, you will therefore have to break the law to illegally buy steroids in order to increase your level.
I am curious what the situation is in Russia? Do you have a health service that have an official 'low' level? Can you just walk into a pharmacy and buy steroids? I believe that is possible in Bulgaria and Romania, to just walk into the pharmacy and buy testosterone without a prescription.

That is fascinating, so that is only slightly higher than the UK, as a requirement to receive a prescription! I would have expected Russia to be a far more male-positive place, where you can potentially get testosterone quite easily. In my opinion a man should be able to choose what testosterone level he wants to be, I wondered if it was potentially just freely available.
What makes this quite strange is that we live in a time, at least in the Western world, where testosterone has decreased over the past few decades. Men are now less than half the testosterone level that quite recent past generations were, yet we define historically LOW levels as "normal". I get why we do that here in the UK, the UK is left wing and has lots of people that see testosterone as a "nazi" thing. Men like Richard Moore, are the types who mock high testosterone men as "macho" and often attack them with radical feminist propaganda such as the view that their penises are small and they are "compensating", or that they are secretly a repressed homosexual Republican governor. These nasty attacks stopped a lot of action that could have been taken by several demographics of men within the state and within our health service, to increase testosterone so that our average levels are the way they were in generations past. The men in the UK who normalized testosterone came from subcultures like bodybuilding, boxing, and prison, that were never around people like Richard Moore. There is subsequently quite a large demographic of men who support testosterone, which is very fortunate as people who are adjacent to the state and the health service are often very negative, and you won't get anything from them. Because of those male positive demographics, steroids are actually relatively available, though I have no personal experience with that.
I thought the situation would have been different in Russia, as you are not as left wing or radical feminist. Can anyone answer why your health service seems to be in line with the NHS about this important matter? Russia had a strong feminist movement and developed radical feminism in the mid-2010s. It was destroyed by the introduction of neural tools in the social network VK (a very popular social network in the Russian-speaking space, much more popular than Facebook or other). The system removed hate speech - blocking groups that promoted ideology and users who called for extermination based on gender or race, and it worked so well that it recognized veiled messages.

Here is a decent, left wing source for the claim that testosterone is decreasing. Obesity is premised as the cause, which may be correct. There are also other factors, such as pollution. It is hypothesized by some groups that microplastics within water and food may decrease testosterone, which is quite compelling.

I am not surprised, I didn't believe that your state would support radical feminism. That is why I am quite puzzled that you have almost the same policies on testosterone as the UK. In the future this will be a big issue, because more and more men believe in using testosterone replacement therapy after their mid thirties. These aren't the groups who go crazy on steroids, it's just somebody who doesn't want his testosterone level to decrease and potentially wants to sustain a real average or above average level. Supplementation to this level is very safe and well studied.
This is something that men are obviously willing to pay for, and I can see a scenario in which a large percentage, potentially even a majority over 40, are trying to use a testosterone replacement therapy. Therefore it will be a huge economy and 'home grown' testosterone will become a real thing. The UK is obviously in a very strong position in terms of the necessary industry for mass production, however there are simply left wing people in the way, like Richard Moore, all throughout our institutions, so it potentially may not happen. I don't know why they're not trying to become the world leaders in hormonal health, except for the memories of my own experiences where left wing people acted like barriers to engaging in actions or views that were more masculine. They haven't even tried to increase penis size, for example, despite the availability of different types of growth hormones, and preexisting use of those compounds on individuals who are classed as having micropenises, to make them bigger. The compounds work in the same way on individuals of any size, yet the NHS doesn't use them in that way on adolescents, something that they could be doing today. What I can't figure out is why your country wouldn't be doing something like that. They must be more left wing than I thought.

I don't sit anywhere but 4chan. 4chan is a very backward site with late 90's level design and features (and you know it yourself). I used to have a Facebook account. It was considered a “delicacy” (I don't know what word to choose in English) in Russia in its time - to have an account in VK and an account in Facebook, only pseudo-intellectuals and “non-standard personalities” had an account in Facebook, most Russians didn't care about it, it scared away at least the impossibility to listen to your favorite music, as it was done in VK.
Nevertheless, both then and now Facebook is really inferior to VK in terms of functionality and infrastructure. VK is not so popular in the West due to weak advertising campaigns and users' attachment to their Facebook pages.
However, both 4chan and Facebook have a greater impact on world culture because they were the first.

To be honest, internet development is one of the few industries in Russia that I can be proud of, unlike everything else (which I am very dissatisfied with). The Western internet looks backward compared to the Russian internet, both in terms of functionality and the content of some social sites.
As for Dvatch, the most vile and useless section is /b/, however, even there there are philosophical threads from the deep industrial zone filled with gray longing of commieblocks and despair of their own insignificance in the universe - such people go into themselves and reflecting discover unique things, which they share in their tracks, using 15k available characters to the maximum.
My favorite section is /sn/, but not because I'm the shizo who believes in paranormal phenomena and conspiracy theories, but because this board has a lot of horror threads written by talented people, this board is also where SAMOSBOR (2018 y.) was invented - an open universe that went beyond Dvatch and on which several games were made and many books written, has developed communities in VK and Telegram. Something similar came out only a year later on 4chan. And it was called Backrooms. However, SAMOSBOR did not become so popular because of the prevalence of Russian language in the world, although, in my opinion, it has a higher quality.

I too have been visiting 4chan since 2009. It was a very nice place up until 2016. From 2016 on wards it was just bearable, and after 2021 it became completely unusable. I am currently only visiting specific threads like /chug/.
Never really used my facebook but ever since I created a vk I noticed that I actually like logging in once in while and getting current news about certain music genres that I like.
As for Dvach, threads are very informative and very funny. Reminds me of 4chan pre-2016. Posters are trying to help, they are pragmatic and can debate opposing points of view. The vast majority of time that someone will become a nuisance he'll come out as a Russian expat living somewhere in Europe and start cursing everyone just like a Western liberal would.
If the Western side of the Internet is indeed degrading due to Western populations and their governements degenerating then that would mean that there is hope for alternate online spaces to substitute them.
I've also noticed how frequent it is to find Chinese and Russian codebases on github, especially regarding censorship bypass and hosting your own sites. I wonder what's gonna happen when inevitably a corona level happening occurs once again and there is no place in Western Internet that is able to inform people truthfully. Most people will just wake up one day with zero access to outside sources of information and they will neither have the experience to bypass government firewalls.

I understand that this conflict is ongoing and I do not want to discuss morality. I am not interested in that. I just want to ask this question to real Russians. I do not want to blindly read the propaganda that is being fed to me. Russia is a superpower! They have a well educated, well trained volunteer army, like the US. The West wants people to believe that the Russians are not "pulling their punches" or gathering all their forces.
I doubt it. I think Russia is acting like the US would act. Only sending as many as they think they need. If the Kremlin wants to raze Ukraine and cause international outrage, they will.
Do you think Russia views this war the same way the US viewed Iraq or Afghanistan?

If I understand the expression correctly, we are talking about prolonging the conflict and the absence of full military mobilization. Russia is doing this because at this stage of the war it is not economically profitable; declaring an official war removes a number of restrictions and imposes new ones. War is a completely different legal status than a “special military operation” in Russian law, because of which Russia would have to switch to a military economy, which would affect other areas of the economy (development of civilian AI, civilian airplanes, medicine, etc.).

No. The US starts its war by destroying the entire power generation and water supply of the enemy, causing a humanitarian catastrophe and wreaking havoc in the enemy ranks. Russia didn't do that because Ukraine has a huge number of Russian speakers, former Russians from the Russian empire who were forcibly Ukrainianized and assimilated by Ukrainian communists (no job if you don't know Ukrainian, no work, no job, go to jail).
I am not going to push a 10000 page Putin style historical text here. You can read it yourself. The point is that Russia is using humanitarian approach, this is one of the main difficulties of this war.
And I personally think this approach is flawed, if we were more cynical like the US about our enemies , this war would have ended much faster. The Russian Empire lost 700,000 Russian soldiers in the war to liberate the Balkans from Turkish slavery, and where are these countries now? All of them except Serbia are now members of a hostile alliance. Humanitarianism in Russian culture is not bad in itself, but it is Russia's main problem militarily. That's why being number one in power in the world doesn't make Russia a great warrior.
I find the cynical approach of the US more successful.

This war for Russia is not an attempt to have strategic influence (unlike the operation in Syria), it's a security issue that was very much compromised by the CIA's actions in supporting the coup d'état in 2014. A civil war broke out in Ukraine (all western media denies this fact, but it's just a fucking fact by all criteria) and the Ukrainian army started a military campaign against the east of their country, destroying the population, part of the AFU army defected to the rebels, many rebellions were suppressed (except Donetsk and Lugansk) which forced Russia to intervene indirectly for humanitarian reasons. Ukraine in NATO is a serious power imbalance, the Black Sea (5 NATO fleets vs. 1 Russian fleet) is a serious security hole through which Russia can be pressured geopolitically by limiting its sovereignty. The only infrastructure in the region that allowed NATO and Russia to have a strategic advantage was the Crimean ports. This war has a strategic importance that determines Russia's ability to develop and is much more important than Afghanistan or Iraq. Afghanistan or Iraq can be compared to the Russian operation in Syria, but the Ukrainian conflict is more serious for Russia's existence.
And the answer to the main question: Can Russia lose?
No, it can't.
Russia will suffer a complete strategic defeat, so all means, including nuclear weapons, will be gradually used to prevent this.
